Today I received a call from my dad that my Grandpa McMaster passed away. He was 91.5 years old. He lived an awesome life and lived it to the fullest. I can't even begin to describe what kid of man he was. He helped everyone. One of my fondest memories of him was when he taught my brother and I how to ski when we were 8 years old. He was definitely the best skier I have ever known and was doing it well into his eighties.
He has been in a lot of pain and very frail over the last year. We are so glad to know that he is in a better place and has finally been reunited with my grandma, who passed away about 20 years ago.
So, it looks like we will be heading back to California this weekend. My mom is in Oregon on vacation so she will be coming back early from that. She was however able to spend some good quality time with her father this last weekend. Alexis and I also had the opportunity of spending a full day with him while we were in CA.

Mel, I am very sorry for you loss. I know that you guys were close to him. I am happy you got to spend the day and take care of him. And I am glad he is with your grandma now. Drive safe to Cali and you guys will be in our prayers.
I am so sorry, Mel. On the other hand, I'm glad to know he's out of pain and with his sweet wife again (thank goodness for our knowledge of the afterlife). We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
i, too, am so sorry to hear this. and yet you are right, he is in such a better place and is with your grandma...two really good things. the little i remember of him, he WAS an amazing man. i know he loved you kids. have a safe trip. love you.
mel, just this morning I was reading in the Joseph Smith, Teachings of the Presidents of the Church chapter 14...Words of Hope and Consolation at the Time of Death (I kid you not, I really was...trying to catch up to the lessons...). He shares some of the last words his father spoke to him and of all the losses he experienced. Yet, what a positive view he had on death and how temporary it truly is. "They are absent for a moment. They are in the spirit, and we shall soon meet again. The time will soon arrive when the trumpet shall sound. When we depart, we shall hail our mothers, fathers, friends, and all shom we love, who have fallen asleep in Jesus. There will be no fear of mobs, persecutions, or malicious lawsuits and arrests; but it will be an eternity of felicity." I'm thankful that through his pain he found the answers and revelations to heal us all. Enjoy being with family...no matter the occasion.
